Denmark Internship Program

Gain 12–18 months of hands-on training in modern Danish dairy farms, working directly in milking operations, animal care, nutrition management, and farm hygiene. Criteria for Eligibility

The candidate must be pursuing a degree in agriculture

(Graduate candidates are not eligible.)

Duration

12-18 Months

Core Responsibilities:

  • Milking operations (twice or three times daily) using tie-stall/stanchion barns or free-stall and parlour systems
  • Feeding and nutrition monitoring for calves, heifers, and milking cows
  • Cleaning routines to maintain hygiene in animal housing, milking areas, and feeding zones
  • Record keeping for animal health, production, and daily operations
  • Animal health care, including treatment of sick animals under supervision
  • Waste disposal and farm sanitation practices following Danish standards

Additional Opportunities:

  • Participate in the farm’s breeding program, learning about heat detection, AI schedules, and calf rearing
  • Get involved in forage and grain harvesting, depending on the season
  • Collaborate with the host’s nutrition planning team to understand ration formulation and feed efficiency

Compensation:

  • First 6 months: ~12,803.95 DKK/month (before tax)
  • Months 7-18: ~14,851.37 DKK/month; those over 25 may receive up to 17,195.39 DKK/month

Structure & Benefits:

37-hour workweek, 5 weeks paid vacation, 12.5% holiday allowance, flex account contribution, housing (1,000-3,000 DKK/month), CPR number, health insurance, certificate upon completion

Farm Type:

  • Farms may use either:
    • Tie-stall or stanchion barns (common in smaller or traditional setups)
    • Free-stall systems with milking parlours (more common in modern operations)
